HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) at Health and Exercise Matters

If you’re restricted for time and want to get the most from your workout you can’t beat high-intensity interval training (HIIT).  Classes are Physiotherapist led and designed for people with an intermediate level of fitness. Beginners may get more benefit from our full body circuit classes.

What is HIIT?

HIIT training involves putting in your maximum effort for short, intense bursts of exercise followed by short recovery periods to reap the maximum rewards.

The benefits are very impressive – improved endurance and increased fat burning will boost your metabolism so you’ll burn calories faster and for longer. In fact, research suggests that 15 minutes of HIIT training burns more calories than an hour jogging.

This class based challenge involves a series of fantastic body-weight exercises that can be performed anytime, anywhere. Prepare to be taken out of your comfort zone. Well, it is a challenge!

HIIT is a combination of 4 or more exercises performed with short rest periods between them for either a set number of repetitions or a prescribed amount of time. HIIT is structured in a way that enables you to keep performing the exercises with good technique and very short rest intervals.

HIIT is very time efficient which makes it a popular method of training. It is an excellent way to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance in addition to loosing body fat.

HIIT will elevate your heart rate and keep it high through the entire session due to the short rest periods, large muscles being worked together and a combination of upper, lower and whole body exercises.

An appropriate exercise selection and structure will mean you can move from one exercise to the next without undue fatigue.

HIIT is a great choice if you get easily bored, are short on time or don’t like to train alone. It can involve as much or little equipment as you like which makes it ideal for group training and those with limited space.
